2025 PROGRAM
Making Peace with the Challenges of Inherited Wealth

While money itself is neutral, when it comes as a result of inheritance, it tends to develop an identity of its own that can overwhelm or distort our true identities.

We’ll explore the opportunities and the sometimes painful situations money can create. At the Summer Institute we often discover our “money-related issues” are human issues everyone deals with, they are just magnified or complicated by financial wealth.
Our experience may be that money affects how we are seen and who we are, but ultimately we get to choose how we respond to the impact. We have the freedom to assert our power to use our inheritances as tools to build a meaningful life.

We will dive into some of the paradoxes of having financial wealth:

-
Money can buy healthcare, but it can’t buy health, or prevent mortality.
-
Money can attract people to you, but how do you know if you are loved for who you are, or for your money?
-
Money can free your time because you don’t have to work, but how do you meet the other needs a job can fulfill - giving you an identity, knowing you are making a difference, having colleagues, and the security of knowing you could support yourself?
-
Money provides the opportunity to hire help, but that comes with the responsibilities of management and can raise trust and privacy concerns.

Together we will share stories of how money, and all that can come along with it, has helped us and hurt us with a focus on what we have learned and how we are prevailing to invest in living our best lives and finding contentment.
The Summer Institute incorporates a balance of large and small group activities, with time for personal reflection and opportunities to socialize. It is our experience that what we learn and explore together leads to more open, fulfilling conversations and relationships throughout our lives.
