Theme
Happily Ever After? Discovering, Challenging and Evolving Our Inheritance Stories

This year’s Summer Institute will create an environment of curiosity, adventure, and respect as we explore our own and others’ stories especially related to money and inherited wealth.

What are stories?
Storytelling is perhaps the most ancient mode of human communication. For centuries, knowledge and culture have been passed down via the “oral tradition,” as well as through fairy tales, myths, poetry, music, film, dance, drawing, collage, and many other forms. We also have individual stories about ourselves and our families. Stories may act on us outside our awareness or unconsciously, influencing our ideas about who we are and our purpose in life. Stories explain how things came to be the way they are.

Why look at stories?
By looking at our stories, we open the possibility of discovering more about who we are and what we might yet become. We can also consider story tweaks we might want to make – to broaden our perspectives, enhance our relationships, or adjust our trajectories in order to increase our well-being going forward.

Some questions we might ponder as we explore our stories include:

The Summer Institute incorporates a balance of large and small group activities, including educational exercises, presentations, and discussions. We include time for personal reflection as well as opportunities for socializing with others.

Whether you've spent little time or decades pondering questions like those above, the Summer Institute will provide something of value to you. It is our experience that what we learn and explore together leads to more open, fulfilling conversations and relationships throughout our lives.
